REACH's mission is developing policies, strategies, and educational programs in co-
operation with community goals. These programs will serve as a catalyst for greater public
participation in recycling initiatives, promote the purchase of recycled materials, and
encourage private enterprise to make recycling a central part of their business process.
Our goals for this site are to promote recycling
in Monroe County so we can REACH our goal -
recycling 35% of our solid waste - and to create
a dynamic Web environment with frequently
updated recycling news and information.
NOTE: We have recently updated our drop-off location information. Please take a look, and check to see if your location has changed. We apologize for any inconvenience and we appreciate your support. Thank you.
REACH Recycling's programs include many ways of REACHing out to people within our county to educate them about the benefits of recycling, and to provide them with as much information as possible to assist them in finding out how, what, when, and where they can recycle.
This includes several different resources such as educational videos, television advertisements, and more.
PLASTIC BAGS – THE
SILENT KILLER
Did you ever drive down a highway and see plastic bags hanging on the trees like Christmas ornaments? See a plastic bag floating down the street, landing in your yard for you to pick up? Or when it rains and clogs the sewer drains?
That is just a few annoyances that we as adults put up with. What about the animal population? Birds get caught in the bag and not be able to fly. Dolphins get caught on them and as they grow the bags cut into them. This is a very sad result of plastic bags. We are killing wildlife.
We can change that. Don’t use them. That sounds so simple and it is. The next time you go to a store take a reusable bag/s with you and use them instead. Some stores give you refunds on not using plastic bags. Ask for paper bags. Remember them? In a landfill they disintegrate, plastic bags take up to 1,000 years.
Help the animals and the environment and “Say no to plastic bags”, and stop the silent killing.
